Shredder/Granulator System from Conair Suits Low-Volume Grinding Applications
A new Conair scrap-reclaim system, which brings together a single-shaft shredder, a CBW granulator and blower evacuation equipment, can turn purgings and bulk scrap into usable regrind quickly and economically. The moderately priced 500-lb/hr system is ideal for processors who occasionally need to grind purgings that are too large for a conventional press-side granulator and who could benefit from additional scrap-reclaim capacity.
In the shredder, a low-rpm rotor is fitted with specially designed cassette knives in a staggered array to cut quickly through thick material, turning it into small pieces. These “chips” are then vacuum conveyed to a standard CBW Series press-side granulator, which can reduce up to 500 lb/hr to clean, usable regrind. This, in turn, can be evacuated to storage or directly back to the processing machine.
“Finally,” says Mike Verner, Conair Granulator Sales Manager, “a processor who generates only a few purgings has a cost-effective way to handle them – while adding conventional grinding capacity too. These small, turnkey systems can grind purgings or a gaylord full of runners and scrap parts just as easily. You simply load the shredder and the system does the rest automatically.”
