New TouchView™ Controls on Conair Dryers Offer Users Intuitive Navigation on Color Screen
New, easy-to-use TouchView™ controls, available on larger Carousel™ Plus dryers from The Conair Group, Inc., feature a 7-inch-diagonal screen with touch-activated full-color graphics and status indicators. System schematics display critical process settings and actual data and individual parameters can be selected and adjusted just by touching them. Gone are the sometimes-confusing LED and LCD alphanumeric displays found on other dryers. Instead, the new control displays system overview screens and “snapshots” of the process that make it simple and intuitive to navigate to whatever information is required. Warning messages are presented in clear statements instead of alarm codes. Password security prevents changes by unauthorized personnel.
Available on either an Allen-Bradley or Siemens platform, the basic control package offers temperature control with an autostart function that makes it possible to begin predrying material hours before the start of a new shift. Functionality can be added in three different optional packages:
-
Dew-point control allows users to select a specific dew-point setting and the control locks it in, monitoring moisture levels in to-process and return drying air. The control adjusts dryer functions to precisely hold the dew point selected and alerts the operator whenever the dew point drifts outside specified tolerance. This system virtually eliminates any chance of over drying or under drying expensive material.
-
The patented Conair Drying Monitor package adds a probe inside the drying hopper to measure the temperature at multiple locations throughout the material bed and displays the temperature profile on the control panel. If the temperature profile changes, due to a blocked filter or crimped air hose, for instance, the Drying Monitor will alert the operator, providing an early warning. The problem can then be corrected immediately, before defective parts are produced and valuable resin and processing time is wasted.
-
Optimizer Mode combines dew-point monitoring and the Drying Monitor with a variable-frequency drive on the air blower. In Optimizer Mode, operators can fine-tune the air flow, along with temperature and dew point, and maintain stable, energy-efficient conditions within the hopper regardless of throughput changes or variations in material temperature or ambient conditions.
CAROUSEL PLUS DRYERS PROVIDE ROCK-STEADY CONTROL
The core of all Carousel Plus dryers is the Munters® fluted desiccant rotor. Molecular sieve desiccant is impregnated into the rotor’s porous fiberglass substrate, preventing desiccant breakdown and dusting over time. The rotor revolves slowly and continuously through in-process, regeneration and cooling cycles. This design ensures rock steady temperature and dew point control. The rotor technology produces low-dew-point air within minutes of start up, and the dryer’s reduced structural mass requires less heat energy (up to 40% less) than twin-tower dryers.
Carousel Plus dryers are available to handle as little as 15 lb/hr (6.8 kg/hr) or as much as 5000 lb/hr (2268 kg/hr). All can deliver air dried to a -40°F (-40°C) dew point at controlled temperatures from 100 to 375°F (38 to 191°C). TouchView controls are available on Models W600 to W5000.
