Blending and Extrusion Line Control Integrated In Advanced TrueBlend™ EXT System from Conair

 

The advanced TrueBlend™ EXT blender controller combines blender operation with control of extruder throughput and finished product dimensions. The advanced TrueBlend™ EXT system suits both mono-layer and co-extrusion applications when a TrueBlend gravimetric blender is used in combination with the new TrueWeigh™ gravimetric loss-in-weight hopper.

The TrueBlend EXT gravimetric extrusion control blender blends and tracks the amount of material being fed to the extruder and automatically adjusts the extruder screw rpm and the haul-off device to maintain a consistent product output regardless of changes in raw materials, ambient conditions or processing variables.

In mono-layer applications, the TrueBlend EXT controller is fully capable of controlling both the extrusion throughput and the blender functions, thus reducing overall system cost and giving the operator single-point access to set and control constant weight throughput or weight per running length of extruded product.  In coextrusion applications, the TrueBlend EXT combines blender control with weigh hopper monitoring, while control of throughput, layer ratios and haul-off speed are managed by a separate TrueWeigh touch-screen controller.

The TrueBlend EXT controller uses an enhanced blending algorithm that accommodates highly critical blend applications through a learning process that makes multiple, non-linear dispenses using measured time-based flow rates per ingredient until the target amount is reached. This is inherently more accurate than the standard approach used by major suppliers which does not accommodate the same precise level of fine-tuning for each ingredient dispensed. Dispense order of ingredients can be selected by the operator for each recipe.

The user-interface screens of the TrueBlend EXT blender have the same look and feel as the standard user-friendly TrueBlend controller. The only difference is that additional EXT screens have been added to manage the TrueWeigh hopper gravimetrics, extrusion controls and associated alarms.

The system is most often used in conjunction with single screw, flood-fed extruders. The most common extrusion processes to use the system are: cast film or sheet, blown film, wire and cable, profile, pipe, tubing and extrusion coating.
