Servo Saw from Conair Is Tougher, Faster; "Hybrid"
Tank and Dry Table Saves Floor Space
Conair
has introduced two new pieces of downstream extrusion
equipment — a new servo-driven saw and a
“hybrid” extrusion-cooling tank, with
integral dry table. These products increase line
speed and productivity, while improving product
quality and saving valuable floor space.
Designed
for high-speed pipe extrusion and composite lumber
lines, the new CTS traveling cutoff saw
features servo drive for speed and accuracy and
more substantial bearings and rugged linear rails
to stand up to tough duty. The saws come in three
sizes to handle pipe diameters of 5, 7 and 9 inches,
and profiles as large as 9 by 17 inches. The CTS
can make as many as 25 cuts per minute (depending
on profile size) and throughput rates as high
as 100 ft/minute. Most competitive saws have a
top speed limit of less than 50 ft/minute. To
accommodate these high speeds, the saw can be
built with up to 48 inches of table travel, double
what other saws provide. This, plus a new control
system with high-speed microprocessors and new
software, means no other saw is faster.
A
space-saving cooling tank/calibration
table ‘hybrid’ can cut floor
space requirements by as much as 50% compared
to an installation with individual components.
The unit combines a high-intensity spray-cooling
tank with a table to accommodate dry-calibration
tooling and is intended for small rigid profiles
that otherwise would require a full size tank
and separate calibration table. For instance,
a new 7-ft hybrid tank/table can be specified
in place a separate 4-ft dry table and 10-ft tank.
The
Conair high-intensity spray-cooling tanks are
already space efficient, thanks to turbulent cooling
created by a uniform, 360° high-volume spray
pattern of water that covers all profile surfaces
with extremely small water droplets that efficiently
pull off BTUs. Although water is sprayed in very
fine droplets, the tank brings a tremendous amount
of water to the surface of the profile. While
a conventional tank might pump 100 gal/min, the
high-intensity tank pumps 360 gal.
